Classifying Objects in an Image

When you classify objects in an image, you make use of the measurement data you have collected for the objects in the image in order to assign the objects to unique 'classes', which are categories based on similarities and differences between the objects.

Typically, the classification feature is used with the Count/Size feature, for example. Suppose you have used the Count/Size feature to identify the objects in an image, as shown below:

With the classification feature of Image-Pro, you can easily group similar objects based on whichever measurements are most relevant for the grouping. In the above example, for example, it might be useful to group objects by size:

In the above example, the objects are grouped into three classes: large (red), medium (green), and small (blue). Once classifies, objects can be grouped in the data table in order to get statistics on them.View > Workspace > Align Views

There are several different methods for classifying objects in Image-Pro:

• Do a quick classification based on a single measurement
• Have Image-Pro do an auto-classification based on several measurements
• Use reference objects to 'teach' Image-Pro how to classify other objects
• Tag objects manually.
